We rejoined Kaiako in January 2020. It was still very chilly in St Augustine so we decided to head further south. We decided to head for Pompano Beach.
We left St Augustine on January 28th. We had hoped to sail the ocean to West Palm. Again Mother nature said “no”. So we took the ICW motoring each day anchoring in the late afternoon. We stopped at Ponce Inlet, Eau Gallie and Jensen Beach. We made Stuart on the morning of the 4th day.
We stayed at the Sunset Marina, A nice marina that has a large mooring field but the moorings are first come first serve so we did not want to chance that and made a slip reservation. As it turned out there were 2 moorings free when we got there. We stayed in Stuart for 2 days before proceeding further south.
If you are in Stuart check out the Taco Shack and Lolas Seafood, we thought they were great.
We tried to sail to West Palm but the seas and wind forced us to motor. I ran a course close to the beach but not that close. I found if I ran the 39 foot depth that the seas were the calmest. We got to West Palm to anchor for a few hours at Peanut Island which was very nice. We anchored for the night just north of West Palm center.
We wanted to stay in West Palm for a few weeks, We have friends and family there but there was no availability any where near there. We found a spot in Pompano at the Sands Harbor Marina an older Marina that has just been purchased but not renovated yet. Its nice and we like it. The Marina has an old school marina feel, not the Mega Yacht Marina feel that seems common now days. Brad the Dock Master took our reservation and didn’t want a deposit. Just “penciled us in” several weeks before we got here.
